Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw finished third in the elite women’s race at the 2025 Boston Marathon on Monday, clocking a time of 2:18:06.
Yalemzerf pushed the pace for 70% of the race—a remarkable comeback after battling injuries over the past few years.

Sharon Lokedi of Kenya obliterated the course record by more than two minutes, using a blistering kick down the stretch to win in 2 hours, 17 minutes and 22 seconds. Fellow Kenyan Hellen Obiri finished second at 2:17:41.
Three of the athletes shattered the previous course record set by Ethiopia’s Buzunesh Deba, who ran a time of 2:19:59 in 2014.
Meanwhile, in the men’s race, Kenyan John Korir used a strong move around the 20-mile mark to separate himself from the rest of the leaders and win in 2:04:45. Alphonce Felix Simbu of Tanzania followed in 2:05:04. Last year’s champion, Ethiopian Sisay Lemma, dropped out after the halfway point.
