Bernard Biwott won the Paris Marathon on Sunday, setting a new personal best of 2 hours, 5 minutes, and 25 seconds. At nearly 23 years old, the runner was competing in only his second marathon, following his victory in Frankfurt in October 2024. Djibouti’s Ibrahim Hassan, the only runner to keep up with the Kenyan’s surge, finished second in 2 hours, 6 minutes, and 13 seconds, ahead of fellow Kenyan Sila Kiptoo, who shattered his personal best by nearly two minutes with a time of 2 hours, 6 minutes, and 21 seconds. Ethiopian athletes also made a strong showing, with Dinkalem Ayele finishing sixth in 2:07:54 and Tsedat Ayana placing seventh at 2:08:19.

In the women’s race, Bedatu Hirpa claimed victory in a dramatic sprint finish, edging out fellow Ethiopian Dera Dida. The two broke away with just one kilometre to go and battled it out on Avenue Foch, where Bedatu proved the stronger, crossing the line in 2:20:45. Dera followed just four seconds behind, while Kenya’s Angela Tanui secured third place, 20 seconds off the winning time. “I really wanted to win today, so I showed as much joy as I could at the finish line,” Bedatu said.

Kenya’s Angela Tanui secured third place, finishing just 20 seconds behind the winner. Kenya’s Judith Jeptum Korir, the Paris course record holder since 2022, finished eighth with a time of 2:25:30.
