Lencho Bati, Ethiopian ambassador nominee, rejected by the U.S., reports local media

In a surprising move, the U.S. has refused to accredit Lencho Bati as Ethiopia’s new ambassador to Washington, Meseret Media reported.

According to Meseret Media, the U.S. has rejected Ambassador Lencho Bati, who recently served as Ethiopia’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and requested a different appointment. The media, citing reliable sources, reports that the issue involves concerns about Bati’s background in the U.S., including unspecified criminal charges.

Lencho, a prominent Oromo politician and former spokesperson for the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), has lived in the U.S. for decades.

So far, there has been no confirmation or explanation from the Ethiopian government.

Although the U.S. has occasionally declined to accredit diplomats from various countries, there hasn’t been a known incident involving Ethiopia. The refusal to accept the envoy’s credentials is being viewed as a “serious diplomatic incident.”

  1. It’s alright. He will become the Prime Minister of the new Republic of Wallagaa when his OLA liberates Oromia. For now, they should make him an ambassador to the despots joint in Moscow, Beijing or better yet in Villa Mogadishu. But not in Good Ole USA, never!!!

Sexual assault? That is a serious crime. Such are individuals who have been speaking on my behalf and the rest of my Oromos? I’ve never been insulted as such. Sexual assault is rape and a rapist as an ambassador? Not on Good Ole USA’s watch!!! They can make him an ambassador to the dens of proven rapists in Moscow and Beijing or even better yet in Pyongyang.

  2. It seems like a clear message from Washington DC… “Concerning Ethiopia, we will make the diplomatic rules”
    Ethiopia wake up!
Concentrate on improving Ethiopia and it’s people.
I wouldn’t want to be the next Ethiopian Ambassador sent to Washington.
    How humiliating for the ambassador.
    This is an insult.
I guess diplomacy is needed here.
