The Raya Alamata woreda administrator has accused Tigrayan forces of launching an attack and seizing control of the majority of the woreda’s territory.
Administrator Mola Derbew stated that the Tigray regional forces, commonly referred to as the TPLF, orchestrated the attack, which began at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday and continued until late Monday. He reported that unarmed civilians suffered injuries and fatalities as a result. The official stated that Tigrayan forces initiated their attack in Addis Berhan Kebele within the woreda, and continued firing on Sunday.
The administrator of the southern zone of the Tigray region, Habtu Kiros, denied the report, stating, that there were no large-scale clashes, only a minor incident provoked by forces in the Raya Alamata woreda. He said that on Saturday and Sunday, Tigrayan protesters demanding the implementation of the Pretoria Agreement marched long distances on foot, starting from the towns of Mahoni and Maichew. They proceeded to areas where there were federal forces checkpoints, he added.
However, Raya Alamata woreda administrator Mola Derbew stated that Tigray forces had utilized heavy weaponry to seize control of the Addis Berhan Kebele and an area known as Garjale.
