Gunfire was heard for part of the morning and midday on Wednesday in Debre Berhan, in exchanges between members of the Amhara regional forces and Fano militants, BBC reported.
Heavy gunfire has been heard in several neighborhoods since the early hours, starting around 7:00 in the morning.
Transport services have reportedly been suspended within the town, coupled with a two-day prohibition on rickshaw or tuk-tuk operations.
Debre Berhan’s mayor, Bedlu Wubshet, confirmed to the BBC that a firing incident occurred in the town but refrained from disclosing specific details, only stating that the situation was under control.
According to witnesses, government forces entered the town around 10 a.m. During the exchange of gunfire, an undisclosed number of people were reported killed in the area of Urael and along the Ankober route.
Residents of the town reported that the gunfire ceased around midday. However, it was reported that trade and business activities remained paralyzed throughout the entire day.
