Residents report ongoing clashes between Fano militants and federal defense forces in certain areas of the Amhara region. The residents contacted by BBC Amharic reported that clashes are currently occurring in the western Gojam and North Shoa.
The clash that occurred in the vicinity of Shewa Robit town on Sunday has led to the disruption of transport services from Addis Ababa to Dessie, according to the report. Residents state that they have been forced to go about their daily activities in a state of fear.
Other towns in the vicinity of Shewa Robit, including Rasa Ashal and Armenia, have also been affected since Sunday, according to the witnesses quoted by the BBC.
A resident who requested anonymity reported a significant disruption in normal activities, adding that banks and government offices were closed, and the movement of people was restricted. The witnesses also mentioned that there have been arrests made in connection with the state of emergency decrees.
People in Majete, a rural market town where atrocities were reportedly committed by federal troops in early September continue to live with a sense of worry. Though they say the area was under the control of federal forces, they were still experiencing looting from groups originating from bordering areas. The farmers in Majete are facing difficulties in harvesting their crops, according to the report. On Tuesday, during market day in Majete, residents were startled by the sound of heavy artillery nearby, which subsequently led to looting.
Two days ago, a priest was shot and injured in connection with the emergency decree curfew, a resident there told the BBC. The resident explained, “The priest defied the curfew and was struck when he left his home around 5:00 a.m. to tend to his agricultural work.”
