Tigray rebels had accused the federal government of a conducting new airstrike in the capital city of the Tigray region, Mekelle on Tuesday morning.
The strike, which could not be independently verified, comes two days after Tigray rebels said they were ready to participate in African Union (AU)-brokered peace talks with the government.
The government has not yet responded to the allegations.
“Abiy Ahmed’s drones targeted the Adi Haki campus of Mekelle University,” TPLF spokesman Getachew Reda said on Twitter.
“As usual, with Abiy Ahmed & Isaias Afeworki massive offensive in many fronts is crumbling like a house of cards, targeting civilians and civilian installations is their way of exacting revenge”, Getachew claimed.
Kibrom Gebreselassie, Ayder hospital medical director, said that one injured patient has arrived at Ayder.
The hit on Tuesday also struck Dimitsi Woyane TV station, which is run by the regional government, “forcing it off the air and causing heavy human and material damage,” according to the authorities.
