There is fierce fighting still taking place around Kobo town between Tigrayan fighters and the federal troops on Monday, Deutsche Welle Amharic reported citing witnesses and residents. As fighting raged in Kobo and its vicinity, an increasing number of people are fleeing to Woldia and other surrounding villages seeking refuge, according to DW. The influx of thousands of families in Woldia is creating a vast humanitarian crisis, many being crammed into shacks and trailers of the town, according to the report.
Over the course of three days, Tigrayan forces conducted a house-to-house search operation in Kobo town, according to the BBC Amharic. Some families interviewed by the radio said the fighters who searched their homes were well behaved and were promising that they would not inflict any damage on them. They were, however, demanding the families to provide information on the presence of federal soldiers hidden by residents, and concealed weapons, the BBC reports.
